Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri – 21 Days
This trek is very interesting specially walking through the magnificient view of Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8152m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m) and Ama Dablam (6456m) as well as through the famous Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Buddhist Monastery, Khunde Khumjung are the few famous spot along with many more. Settlement of mixed ethnic group Brahman, Chhetri, Magar, Tamang in the low land and Sherpa in highland of Solukhumbu Everest region. Jiri to Everest base camp trek cover low land from Jiri to highland Kalapathar 5545m. Due to the long trails, this trek requires a good walking experience and a good physical health condition.
In general, most people takes a plane direct to Lukla and they to get a close-up glimpse of Mount Everest. However, this trails not only provides glimpse of mountain but also passes through numerous interesting ethnic villages, entirely different village setup and rare culture and art of living which is very interesting to certain people of interest besides the mountain views.
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu [1300 m/4264 ft]
Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport (TIA), you will be greeted by a representative from the MSM Tour and Treks team holding a sign with your name in the parking lot. After a brief introduction, you will be escorted to your hotel. After check in, and welcome drinks you will be free to explore around the backpacker haven of Thamel.
Day 2: Kathmandu [1300 m/4264 ft]
Today after breakfast we will start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu including Durbar Square, and Pashupati temple that are both Unesco World Heritage Sites. You will also visit the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambunath) and Buddhists shrine (Buddha Nath) that is one of the large Stupas in the world. Afterwards, you will meet with your trek leader for a briefing and a short question and answer section about your trip. You will also have time to shop for any additional trekking equipment with staff assistance if need.
Day 3: Drive to Bhandar via Jiri
We will take a scenic 6-hour drive to Jiri passing through the famous Kathmandu Valley offering sights of scenic terraced fields that have been farmed for generations. We will arrive in Jiri and begin our trek on a narrow road offerings panoramic views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Dorje Lakpa. We will stay overnight in Bhandar.
Day 4: Bhandar to Sete
we continue down a trail passing through a dense forest before crossing a few streams past the quaint villages of Dokharpa and Baranda. The path begins to wind through the forests entering the Likhu Khola Valley as we climb along a ridge leading to the town of Sete.
Day 5: Sete to Junbesi
We begin uphill to Lamjura la through a peaceful rhododendron encrusted forest through the settlements of Dagchu and Goyem. We reach the crest of the pass at 3530 meters and will stop to admire the panoramic vies of the Khumbu Region before continuing down to Junbesi where we will rest and speak with locals to learn more about the customs and traditions of the local people.
Day 6: Junbest – Nunthala
We will continue through the forest along a stream slowly gaining better and better views of the mountain peaks as we walk. We will stop to admire views of Everest, Lhotse, Nupte and Thamseruku along the way before continuing to Ringmo Khola. We will then cross the river and continue over a suspension bridge before reaching the Sherpa village of Nunthala.
Day 7: Nunthala – Bupsa
We continue down the Dudh Koshi River heading toward the Khumbu Region. We will cross several bridges while climbing to Churka. After a rest and lunch, we will pass Kharikhola and finish with up a steep path to the town of Bupsa.
Day 8: Bupsa – Surke
We will hike through a forest on the way to Kharte before climbing through the Khari La pass, which offers excellent views of some of the regions most picturesque mountains and ridges. The trail continues down to Puiyan before rising gradually to Surke.
Day 9: Surke – Phakding
We climb our way in the direction of Chaurikharka before taking a steeper trail to Chhiplung where we will stop for lunch. We then continue a peaceful trail to the town of Phakding where we will enter the traditional Everest route.
Day 10: Phakding – Namche Bazaar
following breakfast we embark on a pleasant slightly uphill journey with multiple crossings over the Dudh Koshi River and magnificent views of Mt. Thamserku (6,608m/21,675ft) from the Benkar village. We will continue toward the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, where our trekking to register as official visitors to the region. Following a peaceful and serene descend and a gradual walk we will arrive in Lorsale. The enjoyable walk through the riverbed leads to the Hillary Suspension Bridge. As we continue our climb l towards Namche Bazzar, views of Kwangde Peak, its sister peaks, Kusum Kangaru, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache, are available and we will take a break at Chautara here to admire the view. Finally, we reach the bustling village of Namche Bazzar, the main gateway of the Khumbu region.
Day 11: Namche Bazaar – Acclimatization Day
This is a scheduled ‘acclimatization’ day for the trek. It is advisable to stay active and keep moving during the acclimation period to familiarize your lungs with the thing air. We either spend the day taking a day hike to Thame or visiting Khunde or carry out relaxed exploration of Namche Bazaar itself. Namche Bazzar is the main center of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery and a colorful market each Friday Saturday evening. We will travel to the Tourist Visitor Center near Sagarmatha National to learn about the first climbers in Everest, Sherpa culture and the various plant and animal life of the Everest region. We also take an interesting side trip up to Khumjung to climb up to the famous airstrip at Syangboche offering timeless views of the highest mountains on Earth. The Khumjung valley is surrounded by the snowy peaks of Kongde and Thamserku and the sacred peak Khumbila which hosts a well-known monastery that houses a yeti scalp. We will stay overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Day 12: Namche Bazzar to Tengboche
We continue our scenic route offering views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and close up sights of Thamserku along a path offering the chance to spot wild pheasants, deer, and thar on the way to Kayangjuma. We pass a major three-way junction before passing through a series of small villages. We will stop for lunch at Phunki Thenga and continue along a steep path through dense forests offering several unique vantage points before reaching our teahouse in Tengboche.
Day 13: Tengboche to Dingboche
We will take in the sunrise from the famous Tengboche monastery before continuing to the monastery in Pangboche known for its ancient traditions as a popular pilgrimage site. We then continue past several chortens and mani walls as we enjoy close-up views of Ama-Dablam before continuing east to the Imja Valley. We then move downwards to the Locuche River and finish with a steep climb to our destination of Dingboche famous for its stone wall enclosure to protect from harsh winds.
Day 14: Dingboche to Duglha
We climb through the Khola valley along a high terrace surrounded by mountains on all sides. As the trail begins to compress we pass through the yak herding village of Dusa to Chola Lake. We move past several strong rivers with views of Nuptse and Cholastse before arriving in Duglha.
Day 15: Dulgha to Lobuche
We will trek along the terminal moraine route leading to the Khumbu Glacier on the way to the famous Chupki Lhara ridge known for its stone monuments and prayer flags. We continue along the glacier to see the peaks of Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal before continuing along a peaceful stream leading to Lobuche.
Day 16: Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp
We continue along a steep path along the Khumbu Glacier past a famous pyramid shaped signpost offering views of Everest, Pumori, Lingtern, Khumbutse and Nuptse. We continue along the Changri Glacier known for its panoramic 360-degree views of snowy mountain peaks and ridges. Upon arrival at Gorak Shep, we will see one of the highlights of the trip with a close up view of Everest towering over the regional landscape. We then continue along the historic trail to Everest Base Camp following in the footsteps of mountaineers such as Sir Edmund Hilary before returning again to Gorak Shep for the night. We will enjoy one of the best sunset vantage points in the country after a brief hike to Kala Patthar.
Day 17: Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and Pheriche
An early morning climb to Kala Patthar to enjoy the sunset followed a relaxing descent to the town of Periche. This moon light morning hike is the experience of a lifetime and offers the best views the Everest region has to offer. We will stay the night in the windy town of Periche.
Day 18: Pheriche to Tengboche and Namche Bazaar
We will pass through the highest settlement in the region through the town of Pangboche before reaching the peacefull village of Tyangboche. This town is home to the largest monastery in the region before continuing down a steep trail along the Dudh Kosi River through a region famous for wildlife including goats, leopards and pheasants. We will pass the army base of Namche before continue back to the Bazaar for a much earned night of rest and relaxation.
Day 19: Namche Bazzar to Lukla
We continue down a steep trail through rocky terrain through the same path we took previously while enjoying contrasting views of the other side of the Himalayan Range. Passing through a series of small villages we will see prayer stones and flags along the way before our arrival in Lukla.
Day 20: Lukla to Kathmandu
We will fly back to Kathmandu where you can relax in the hotel or continue to explore the city. Today is a great time to do some shopping or exploring the countless temples and markets of the city. We will meet for a celebration diner during the evening to mark the completion of your journey.
Day 21: Departure
Today, a Member of the MSM Tour and Treks team will escort you to the airport for your flight. After saying our farewells you will continue on your journey with fond memories of you adventure in Nepal.
